My appetite for books- all sorts of books -is voracious. Perhaps because I read so much, it seems more and more that a really interesting story line eludes most authors. If I have figured out the ending halfway through, why finish? The Jefferson Tayte series is a 'TEN' in my book. It is well written and well edited. The details are well researched and the story lines are full of twists and turns. The characters in To The Grave were beautifully portrayed ( I really hated Mena's mother!)Enough writing. The third in the series is waiting for me! Genealogical Mystery is my new favorite genre!

We know the killer won't get Tayte because there is a book four and five, but as we learned in the first book, that doesn't mean some innocent people won't die. Faster paced than book one, it lets us assume we know Tayte better to start with, and it looks like the character lessons from the first book stuck with him. I like that. Who wouldn't emerge from the events of book one unscathed?I like that descriptions of Tayte's work are a blend of specifics and generalities. The specifics lend critical authenticity to the fundamental premise of the book, and the generalities mean we don't get bogged down in it. I find Tayte's mix of tenacity, obsession, sense of responsibility to the dead and the living, and pride in his work believable...and I like that about him.

I really enjoyed this book. I read it before I realized it was the second in a series, but it didn't matter, the story stands on its own. I listened to this book via Audible. Although the head character, Jefferson Tayte, is supposed to be American, the narrator, who is English, didn't really change his accent enough. He narrated so clearly and well, that by the end of the book, Jefferson Tayte just became British to me - but the narration of the women's voices could use some work - they all sounded like ninety years old! (I know it must be hard for a man to sound like a 16 year old girl). But soon you get used to this little distraction and start to really get interested in the story of Mina and her family and how one little mistake/lie can change the future of many lives. This story has two settings, one in 1944 wartime England and another in present time England. The character, Jefferson Tayte, is an American genealogical investigator that is trying to find the who and why a suitcase was sent to his client. His investigation takes him to England for more information and there is where the story of Mina begins. I love how the writer tied up all the loose ends at the end of book and didn't leave me hanging and waiting for conclusions in his next book, which I will definitely read, but first I'll have to go back and read book one in the series and hopefully get more insight on the main character. I hope the series goes on for some time.

Could not put it down. Read in one day even though I do not usually read fiction books. This series is so good and well worth the time. The search for missing ancestors etc. is amazing. The characters are so well defined and the same couple in the books build on their relationship in each book. They do it without bad language and sex stuff which is not needed in a well written book.

Whoa, let me take a moment to catch my breath. Just finished reading To the Grave! Steven Robinson must be a very sensitive, compassionate, imaginative man to be able to write a story that pulls at your heart strings, makes your heart beat fast, and leaves you with a bitter sweet feeling about the emotions you feel at the end of this book. He has developed his characters so well that you hate some, love some, and just admire others for their to do the right thing and pursue truth. This story was spellbinding, thrilling, and makes your palms sweat in some very intense moments when you can't see how Tatye can possibly survive certain situations. Time well spent and can't wait to read other Robinson books. Thanks for this wonderful story!!!

This is the second book in the Jefferson Tayte genealogical series. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, In The Blood, enough to continue reading the series. The stories weave back and forth between past histories and current genealogical mysteries that Jefferson Tayte is trying to solve for a particular client. He is somewhat of a quirky character, reminiscent of Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Millhone, and his methodology in trying to find answers. There is murder and mayhem, both in the past and current twists and plots of the interwoven stories. If looking for a different take on historical fiction, mixed with present day settings, this series should intrigue.

Jefferson Tayte is helping a WWII baby who just discovered she was adopted when a strange suitcase full of childhood mementos and a birth certificate arrived on her door. What could go wrong? It is Jefferson Tayte, so lots of dead people. This story deals with American GIs in England during WWII. Not as much history here as in the last one, but story made sense and was driven by the family history. I like JT except I can't figure out why he doesn't find murderers strange in his seemingly quiet line of work.

This is my first experience reading anything by Steve Robinson, but it certainly won't be my last. I was immediately drawn into this fast-paced tale within a tale. The characters and dialogue are believable. I especially liked Mena's real time story set in the summer of 1944. These historically accurate scenes immersed me into Mena's dysfunctional, yet sometimes loving, family. It wasn't until near the end of the story that I figured the fate of Danny. The plotting was solid and, for the most part, the writing was smooth. The only thing off-putting about this story for me as an American reader was the fact that the protagonist, who was supposed to be American, thought and spoke like a Brit. His internal and external dialogue for things like the car's GPS or its hood were not Americanized in any way. Perhaps Mr. Robinson should refrain from using an American protagonist in future books. Or, at the very least, he should run the book through an American beta reader or two and ask one of us to point out those places where the writing doesn't ring true as something an American would say, think, or do.
