As a pretty devoted fan of Mrs. Lewis' writing, I was a little disappointed in this book. For me, there was really not much plot. I appreciated the spiritual points she so thoroughly drives home, but the characters were so one dimensional and saccharine sweet, that I almost didn't want to finish the book. Just not really believable this time. Every great story needs a bit of conflict and there's just not enough here to really draw me into the storyline.
Beverly Lewis just when you think your books can't get any better you knock it out of the park i am a preachers daughter and I remember going to tent revivals and they were fantastic i believe in healing and I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic book Can't wait until the next book. I have read every book you have written and I have never been disappointed
"The First Love " is another exceptional book by Beverly Lewis. A theme of prayer carries throughout the book. Each character plays a role in the book. I found myself feeling the emotions of each one. This book was a blessing to me. In whatever ways there is suffering, mental or physical, we can call on God to help us through. Well done Mrs. LEWIS. Thank you for a great lesson.
The well developed characters made reading this book a true pleasure. I felt a part of each conversation in the kitchen or in any of the stories settings.I enjoyed reading of the tent revival, and the beliefs of the Mennonites who attended. I can only imagine attending daily for a couple of months. God has been glorified.
Wonderful inspirational story. Maggie is a amazing young woman. The pain and suffering she lives with on a daily basis is totally awful. When the tent meeting comes to town Maggie worried about attending it. When she finally goes her life changes dramatically. The way Maggie’s family help each other is truly remarkable. You will feel God working throughout this wonderful book. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.
I always enjoy reading these stories written by Beverly. They are always so inspirational. This story had all the elements of being inspiring with faith that endures even with adversity and with very strong characters and storyline. I remembered visiting Lancaster county and recognized all the names of that area thinking, wow, all the places in the book are real. It made my visit there come alive. Anyway this a very inspiring book to read.
One thing I especially like about this book is that the father is a kind, loving man. Many of the fathers are tough old guys who don't say much.Something was missing, though. It seems like another book could have been made out of it. It finished the story up quickly and too tidely.
I love Beverly Lewis Books and this is another hit for her. It's about an Amish Girl named Maddie and her family. They are all struggling with their own difficulties. Maddie with a crippling illness and her new stronger Faith in God. She is praying for God to heal her so that she may lead a normal life. I really enjoyed it and I'm sure you will too if you like Beverly Lewis novels. It's not to be missed. Looking forward to her new book in the Spring of 2019.
