This could also make another great Amish movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. Trigger topic: family abuse issues. I enjoyed this series very much. The books are rather short and easy to read; could have been combined into one longer book. Abram continues to deal with the issues from his past that cause him to be very short tempered. He has learned many of his behaviors from an uncle he spent summers with. He has to talk about this and finally testifies about what he saw in the community meeting that results in his uncle being banned. Will Uncle Zeb retaliate against Abram and his family? I recommend reading all three books in this trilogy in order; that way many things will be consistent and make sense to the reader. I highly recommend all three books.
I liked the story, and again this is a newer author for me....I just felt chapter after chapter was a repeat. I think spousal or family abuse is a great topic to write about....and helping those who really want to stop this vicious cycle. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but this book was a little lacking in keeping my attention as I already knew the bishops were going to show up the going to the barn to sock the pillow....I don't know....I wish I could give it more of a higher rating.
I have read other books in this series and they were interesting and a lot about spouse abuse and dealing with this problem. The reason for my rating is i feel there to much repeating of previous books. I lost interest after reading only small part of this book.
I love a good Amish story but this book isn't a "Feel Good" story. Domestic abuse is in all societies and this covers it in the Amish community. I have read several of Rachel's books and I have to say she is improving her editing! Although this book also had a few mistakes it was far and beyond better than the others.
Getting help Abram is doing better. But when being confronted being a wife beater he still has issues with anger, but through help of his community and peer classes he is doing better at control. But is it soon enough that Hannah will stay with him and have her love? Will Abram be shown grace? I enjoyed the series.
This is the third and final book in the trilogy. Persistence and diligence reap the rewards for effort well spent. This couple triumph over their problems and come out stronger for it. We get to experience the process from the inside. Wonderful growth and steps shared make this an outstanding read.
I have enjoyed the story of learning to deal with anger issues. There can always be ways of learning how to handle violence. It takes time. Learning to listen to one another is the beginning step. Therapy can help as well.
